Three Fingered Jack – $8,000
Is it an Art Barn? A Guest House? Man Cave? She Shed? Three Fingered Jack is any or all of them. When the accordion doors are tucked neatly away, it’s a 450 SF open air Entertainment Pavilion with a fully functional Kitchen and luxe Bath; its angular forms excite the senses like its namesake Cascade peak outside of Sisters, Oregon.
As originally designed, it floats above a lap pool overlooking the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California(can you find the “Grand Daddy” in one of the shots?) The pool, of course, is not standard equipment, but Three Fingered Jack can find a comfort zone in almost any landscape, with or without a pool.
DESCRIPTION
Three Fingered Jack is informed with an updated vision of Mid-Century post + beam aesthetic. A butterfly roof structure with tapered, laminated rafters hovers over walls of folding glass panels, giving the building a light, almost ethereal feeling. A battered (tilted wall) Utility Tower anchors the triangular trellised half of the butterfly roof form that canopies the entry.
Inside, the walls fold away, the corner disappears and Three Fingered Jack becomes a part of the landscape that surrounds it. Along one wall, a long counter space with sink and under counter refrigerator provides service for guests; the Bath and Storage Room fit neatly and naturally into the triangular corner.
Or…
Deftly furnished, it’s a Guest Room, left open it’s an Atelier. In any guise, it’s an inspiring, captivating space.
It is, in the words of original structure’s Owner, “A pavilion as dramatic as the view–so cleverly done, and in such great detail, with so many different angles in play. The open air feeling with all the glass drawn away is really exotic, like something you’d find in Bali.”
