Chiloquin $8,000
Chiloquin is a “butterfly” view home, a steadfastly unique 1350 square foot structure with but a single Primary Suite; it is intentionally designed for a single person or a couple. A pinwheel plan rotates around a structural cross (“crucifix”) at the center of the building, providing lateral restraint that radiates to the outside walls of the home. The roof slopes from the outer edges to the center line of the structure, creating a “butterfly” silhouette.
DESCRIPTION
Chiloquin is a “butterfly” view home, a steadfastly unique 1350 square foot structure with but a single Primary Suite; it is intentionally designed for a single person or a couple. A pinwheel plan rotates around a structural cross (“crucifix”) at the center of the building, providing lateral restraint that radiates to the outside walls of the home. The roof slopes from the outer edges to the center line of the structure, creating a “butterfly” silhouette.
The interior crucifix form is constructed with concrete masonry blocks (CMU’s) that are filled with mortar (“grouted”) and reinforcing steel bars (“rebar”); a “battered” (sloped wall) plaster form visually anchors the entire structure to the earth, and provides shelter for the interior + exterior Entry and Shower Room.
The plan is at once spare but elegant; “Everything one might need, and nothing they don’t.” Floor to ceiling glass on all sides, and a roof line that lifts one’s gaze to the sky and the potential of the world beyond.
Admittedly, Chiloquin is not a home for everyone, but rather a refuge for someone (or ones) who would seek a domicile from which to engage with the natural world.
